We recently introduced a new segment, Founders Feature, that takes you behind-the-scenes of the company starting with the team who was behind it all. This month, meet Robert Sweatman, leader of our technology business team and gardener at home. He walks us through his journey to Logisticus and the lessons he has learned along the way, including what matters most to him outside the office. Read on for the full story!
Q1: What were you doing prior to LG? // Prior to coming on board with LG I received my second education working at GE. I Worked in the Supplier Qualification Team for a short stint, but more relevantly, I was the bridge between end users of the Logistics and Customs teams and the development teams. We would ensure systems were meeting user needs, roll out the software to new business units, and ensure timelines were met. When I started, GE was rolling out a homegrown TMS and Customs Solution. By the time I was near the end of my GE career there was a business decision to move towards Oracle as the TMS, but keep the Customs solution we had developed working with our in-house brokerage. I call it my second education because GE taught me practical solutions in business and how a global business runs.
Q2: How did you find your way to LG? // During my time at GE I worked very closely with Will, Vikash, and Phillip in the Greenville office. This relationship allowed me to stay in touch with them when they started Logisticus Projects Group. They quickly realized having a system to support their field operatives to streamline data and reporting was critical. I was able to leverage my computer science degree to roll up my sleeves and build systems to support their projects, giving LPG a competitive advantage over other competitors out there. We rolled out the LTS business with LPG as a customer, and continue to find new businesses to support.
Q3: What does your day-to-day role at LG look like? // Day-to-day, my role is to lead the Technology business team. No day is the same, but there is a consistent thread that runs through what I do. I have been able to step out of the weeds of day-to-day operations and look at overarching themes, thanks to our great teams. Working with my team leaders, I am able to set strategy, sales, quality, and security for the business. Ensuring consistent service for all of our customers even as I step back from operations has been a key, and the strong team we have in place has been able to support this.
Q4: What is something about you that is not on your resume? // I am a born-again believer of Jesus Christ who died for the sins of the world! Far from perfect, and glad I’m not the example, but Jesus is. I have a great family that supports all the long hours in and out of the office, building the business. Finally, I love to build and create things. This ranges from trying my hand at woodworking to mostly unsuccessfully gardening.
Q5: What do you want others to know about LG? // Logisticus Group is a business that continues to grow and execute at a high level. Whether you need large cargo planned and moved by the Projects group, or a technology solution from our tech side, we are always happy to help. We are here to make our customer’s lives easier. Give us a call and we will be glad to let you know if we can help, and if not point you in the right direction.
